Why tiling fails in Dubai’s wet areas
Bathrooms, kitchens and balconies see constant moisture, and tiling laid without a proper waterproofing membrane underneath eventually lets water seep into the slab below. That shows up later as hollow-sounding tiles, crumbling grout or a damp patch on the ceiling of the apartment below. Re-tiling a wet area properly means waterproofing it first, not just replacing the tiles on top.
Wallpaper and humidity
Wallpaper reacts to Dubai’s humidity differently to paint. Poorly sealed seams can lift within months if moisture gets behind them, especially near windows or in rooms that run air conditioning inconsistently. We prepare and seal the wall properly before hanging paper, and generally avoid paper in bathrooms or areas with direct water exposure.
Access and building permissions
Re-tiling a floor or wet area in an apartment sometimes involves removing old adhesive or screed, which can be noisy and may need building management’s sign-off on working hours, especially in occupied towers.
